Can you answer for your technology estate?

The Technology Control Checklist is ten questions leadership should be able to answer about its technology estate from evidence. Control means answering basic questions about your technology from evidence. Answer these ten. Every one you can't answer from a document today shows where control is thin.

  1. Can you name every recurring technology service at every location, and who provides it?

What it looks like: One list, site by site: connectivity, voice, cloud, SaaS, security and devices.

  2. Can you produce the agreement that governs each one?

What it looks like: The signed document, attached to the service.

  3. Can you say what each service is billing today?

What it looks like: The current invoice line for each service and site.

  1. For any line in that record, can you show where it came from and when it was last checked?

What it looks like: A source document and a date.

  2. Can you list what you do not know?

What it looks like: A list of services with no agreement, no end date, or no confirmation.

  3. When two sources disagree, would anyone notice?

What it looks like: Both kept on the record until someone resolves it.

  1. Can you name every renewal in the next twelve months, and the date notice is due?

What it looks like: Each notice date with its source, marked where assumed.

  2. For your last major technology decision, can you show what was recommended, what else was considered, and who approved it?

What it looks like: The reasoning, the alternatives, and an approval with a name and date.

  3. Did the signed agreement match what was selected?

What it looks like: Its terms compared with the chosen proposal before signature.

  4. After the change, can you show what went live and which old service was supposed to end?

What it looks like: Each new service live, and each exit recorded with evidence.

Control is not having no gaps. It is knowing where they are.

You can show it.
The evidence is attached and dated.
Nobody knows.
The information is missing. Marked, it is a gap someone can close. Unmarked, it becomes a guess.
It depends who you ask.
Two sources disagree. Worth knowing before anyone decides from either.

These are not grades. A Technology Baseline grades every fact against the NGX Evidence Standard.

A Technology Baseline builds the record behind these answers.

It starts from the invoices and agreements you already have, and marks what it cannot confirm rather than filling it in.

Your Technology Advisor recommends what should change. You decide.
